With crime on the constant rise more and more residential property owners are opting for perimeter electric fencing. The problem here is that anybody who has a pliers and screwdriver advertises as a professional installer to the detriment of the home owner wanting to secure his or her home. For many these installations become a nightmare, some may think they’re more secure but in fact are no better off.
Equipment and installation should comply as specified in the government gazette and by the SABS 0222-3:200 pertaining to the erection of a non-lethal electrified fencing.
Any shorting/cutting/ tampering of the fence wires will activate the alarm if correctly installed. Incorrect Stay(brackets) distances and earthing may make the electric fence ineffective.
Although most energizers have earth return capabilities few are activated since the backyard installer has no idea how to implement this benefit for added security.
For the larger property and industry there are zoned energizers, in other wards each section (zone) may be monitored separately.
This wall faces the street with the electric fence energizer source obvious to the criminal. Shorting it out to disable the rest of the fence is ridiculously obvious.
Above picture shows a gap in the fencing making entry simple for a intruder.
